India’s history is more than a definite set of procedures that are unique in nature. It can also be defined as a cosmos of human history. The ancient civilization that persisted in the nation was about 5,000 years ago. Mohenjadaro and Harappa are the two civilizations that existed in the country for a long period of time.
Invasions also influenced the country a lot. The first invaders to our country were the Aryans. They were actually a group of nomads who settled in the Central Asian landmass. Next were the Indo Europeans who settled in the region to the north west of India. They brought with them new religions, new technologies and new ideas which was a remarkable period in the Indian history. The Indian history had a recorded change when Alexander the Great conquered India. Alexander turned back even after conquering the Indus valley. After a period the greed power created bit confusion and insecurity in northern India. After that Alexander the great left the rule behind. Later on the Maurya’s arrived in the country and took over the power. By the beginning of 4 th century India was divided into a number of small kingdoms.
Islam was spread all over India about 500 years ago. This was the time when the sultanates were established in the country. Hindu Chola and Vijayanagar were the two dynasties that were dominating in the South India during this time.
The first British colony in South Asia was organized at Surat. Later on the east India Company opened there trading stations in different parts of the country. During the late 1800s the initial steps were taken towards the self government.
It was on august 15, 1947 India became an authority, with Jawaharlal Nehru as the first prime Minister for the independent India. After independence the congress party headed by Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru governed India. Indian history is incrementing as time passes out. It is a country with ancient heritage and civilization. All this are not developed in a moment but after a long period.
